When a licence for marrying without the proclamation of banns was granted by the Bishop of Chester or his appointee, a form, known as a marriage licence bond was completed by the contracting parties and their surety or bondsman and deposited with the registrar. From these forms, short extracts in Latin were entered into a book by the registrar.

This volume contains the entries contained in the marriage licence act books for the period 1624 to 1632. The relevant year is given at the top of each page delineated by a square bracket.

The documents at Chester only relate to licences affecting residents within the ancient Archdeaconry of Chester, ie all of Cheshire, Lancashire south of the Ribble and the Welsh parishes of the Bangor Deanery.
